Srinagar 04 March (KMW): One LeT militant and three others were killed in a shootout at a security check post at Pahnoo hamlet of district Shopian.
PRO of the Srinagar based 15 Corps, Col Rajesh Kalia, said that the militants attacked army’s 44 RR party at Pahnoo village at around 8 pm today.
“The fire was retaliated triggering off gunfire in which a militant was killed,” said the spokesperson. “Body of the militant along with the weapon was recovered. Three OGW’S accompanying the militant in the car were also found dead.”
The slain militant has been identified as Shahid Dar (20), s/o Mushtaq Dar, r/o Jamnagri, Shopian. The other three who the army spokesperson said were OWG’s (over ground workers) have been identified as Suhail Khalil Wafay of Pinjoora, Mohammad Shahid Khan of Malikgund and Shahnawaz Ahmad Wagay of Trenz. Shahid had joined militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba just three days back. However, conflicting reports are pouring in over the identity of the three others killed. While the army says the three were OWG’s of LeT, many locals allege they had nothing to do with militancy.
Meanwhile, Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for a valleywide shutdown tomorrow.
Students came out of their hostels in Kashmir University and protested against the killing, raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. A student told KMW over phone that intense sloganeering and protests were underway at the University. Sky-soaring slogans could be heard over phone in the background.
