Srinagar, Feb 10 (KMW): Miscreants looted cash from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of Jammu and Kashmir Bank (JKB) in south Kashmir district of Shopian during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, official sources said.

They said unidentified miscreants looted over Rs 57,000 from the ATM at Kachdora, Shopian after damaging it.

A case has been registered and an investigation started, they said, adding that a massive hunt has been launched to nab the looters.

Looting of cash from the ATM and banks has witnessed an increase during the past one year in the Kashmir valley, particularly in south Kashmir, where police believed that militants are involved in such cases.

The incident occured a day after Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militant Naveed Jatt managed to escape from SMHS hospital after two policemen, escorting the detenues from Central Jail, Srinagar, were killed. Rs 23 lakh were looted from ATM of State Bank of India (SBI) at Karan Nagar a day before the daredevil attack.
