Interactive Session on Trauma and Violence held at Srinagar

Srinagar, April 13: An interatcive session titled “Masterpeace: A collection of stories from conflict towards healing trauma and building resilience” was held on 13th april at inspire me foundation office. A galaxy of people from all walks of life including writers, journalists, scholars, lawyers, activists and students participated in the event. Mushtaqul Haq Ahmad Sikander, head research and policy development inspire me stated that due to the ongoing violent conflict around us we are faced with multiple challenges. Our educational, family and religious institutions are incapable of dealing with these multifacet challenges and issues baffling the society. The people have evolved the coping up and resilient mechanisms to deal with these challenges but still they are not effective and holistic to deal with these variegated problems. Eminent lawyer and activist Mehreen zafar stated about the need of judicial activism in the cases realted to domestic and physical violence against women. Microbiologist Rumayza Wani depicted the need for institutions that will help the victims of violence in overcoming the traumatic experiences. President Jammu and Kashmir Young Journalists Association, Ajaz Ahmad War depicted the need of positive journalism in overcoming grief, stress, and depression. Prominent tv debater and journalist Rameez Makhdoomi deliberated about the challenges of reporting in a violent conflict like kashmir. Student activist and youth leader Badar Bashir emphasised the need of multidimensional approach while dealing with conflict and building resilience. Founder inspire me Yaqeen ul Haq Ahmad Sikander in his skype address emphasised the need of social spaces where people can share and open up about their traumatic experiences. He lamented the lack of such spaces in kashmir. He further stated that inspire me will provide such a space for people to share and learn from their experience. Young researcher Hirra sultan emphasised the need of spirituality in overcoming trauma and building resilience. Adnan Arshid Principal Angels home school emphasised on the need of having professional counsellors in schools. Meer Kaiser young activist depicted the need of such an interaction and lauded the efforts of inspire me towards the same. The event was also attended by social activists saima, ruhi, tehseena, ifla, amaan qadri and zeeshan. The event was organsed in collaboration with campeace and a common word among the youth (acway).
