New Delhi, Aug 5: Ruling NDA candidate M Venkaiah Naidu was today elected as 15th Vice-President of the India, defeating joint Opposition candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi by a margin of 272 votes.
Mr Naidu secured 516 first preference votes as against 244 of Mr Gandhi.
Mr Naidu will replace incumbent Hamid Ansari, who is completing his second term in office on August 10.
The Vice-President elect is the first BJP-RSS leader to assume the country’s second highest constitutional post.
The electoral college for Vice-President’s election comprises of all the Members of Parliament.
