The officers and staff members of the High Commission offered Quran Khawani for the esal-e-sawab of the soul of Allama Iqbal.
The messages of President Dr. Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan were read out on the occasion.
In his remarks, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Sohail Mahmood said Allama Iqbal was an epoch-making personality, who helped turn the tide of history in the Sub-Continent. Paying rich tributes to Hakeem-ul-Ummat, the High Commissioner highlighted myriad dimensions of Iqbal’s life, philosophy, poetic excellence, and political foresight. Iqbal’s life and achievements, he said, presented a shining example of cohesive thought and action.
The High Commissioner added that Allama Iqbal possessed remarkable knowledge of the Islamic religious and political thought and had a deep understanding of the Western philosophy and civilization. Iqbal’s concepts like Khudi (self) and Shaheen (Eagle) had universal value and remained an inspiration for the generations to come. The nation would remain eternally grateful to Iqbal for being the Musavir-e-Pakistan.
High Commissioner Sohail Mahmood concluded that, on this auspicious day, the best tribute to Iqbal was to follow his message in letter and spirit, recommit ourselves to fulfilling his mission, and reaffirm the resolve to build Pakistan in line with the vision of the founding fathers.
